Hi Group;
With all the geology geeks who hang around on here, I'm going to throw out a question and hope to get some kind of intelligent answer. I've been hearing from a number of sources that it is possible to damage the seafloor by removing oil from undersea reservoirs, and even cause seafloor collapse in extreme cases. Is this possible, or is this conspiracy theory. I ask the question because a number of people concerned about the Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster are suggesting that this may be occurring at the site of the BP well blowout. I'd love to hear comments on this, especially from trained scientists.
