[californiadisasters] ADMIN READ: Conduct during breaking events

Now this wasn't a problem Sunday evening, but it's a good time to stick in
another reminder:

When we have a breaking event (or events, as sometimes happens), we need to
stick to the factual reports of that event/those events. Questions and
discussions need to not happen (be held for later or moved to the Discussion
group).

Had this Canyon Incident had much traffic on the group, the discussion of
the "first alarm", etc., would have been a real annoyance and impediment to
the function of the group.

There was not much traffic, and thus there was nothing wrong with the
discussion under the exact circumstances. No criticisms of the actual posts
in this present case. Just that this was an excellent opportunity to remind
members that we do have a policy and wish to maintain it that posts be
focused on reports of the main events and not on tangents whenever an event
is taking place.

A reminder: Join the discussion group.
californiadisasters_discussion-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
We have discussions there which are not appropriate to the main (breaking
news) group.

The reason we have two groups is so that people can pick and choose what
they read, especially when things get hot and heavy with breaking events on
the main group.

A member can, for example, receive individual messages from the main group
and digest from the discussion, or have the main go into his/her inbox and
the discussion filtered to a separate folder, or other means of controlling
the inflow while still having the benefit of all the content.
