You're right that we all need and should have full software protection of
our computers. (I won't speak pro or con about the titles you've listed; not
a path we need to go down on this list.)
HOWEVER, the problem we're seeing lots of in various Yahoo Groups and other
areas has nothing to do with the victim's local computer, viruses, trojans,
etc. Webmail is being cracked.
The problem comes when:
Scenario 1: Someone's Webmail account is compromised, either by cracking or
by the account owner being lured into giving out his/her password. The
perpetrator uses that account (and its contacts) to send spam or phishing
scams (often perverting the account somehow).
Scenario 2: Someone's email address is spoofed. The actual account is never
accessed.
In neither case is the victim's computer ever involved or violated. All the
anti-malware software in the world will not prevent or recover from these
attacks.
Please see the file I mentioned earlier for the full discussion of this
topic.

This seems as good a time as any to make a suggestion to all group members
(not picking on Vodor):
When you come into the group to catch up on the posts, it's a really good
idea to read through an entire thread before posting to it. Before I learned
this, I embarrassed myself a few times by giving the same answer to a
question that someone else had given a few hours earlier. It was especially
embarrassing on those occasions that that answer had also been challenged or
refuted after it was first given and before I came around
empty-headed-looking and posted the same all over again.

No it's not the solution. Please download an anti-spyware application (Ad
Aware,
Spybot Search & Destroy (Kolla), or Iobit's security 360). This happened to
me
and when I installed Security 360, it cleaned the nasty bugger off my hard
drive. Microsoft's Security Essentials is somewhat good as well. It is
spyware
that's attached itself to your emails.
