[californiadisasters] Admin Read: Word From The List-Owner
Achtung Gruppe!
I will be working in the 2011 Tucson Gem & Mineral Show this Thursday through Sunday. As one might imagine I will be very distracted this week with my only internet time being perhaps a half hour each evening on the hotel computer at which times I will try to keep the "On This Date In CA Weather History" column going but may have to simply get caught up with it when I get home.
I ask my awesome mods to keep this ship running smoothly in my absence as they always do and I ask you all to cooperate with them and keep things lively but on-topic and chit-chat on this main list to a minimum and reserved as much as possible for the discussion list.
As many of you are noticing we keep getting sunshine and wind here in the Golden State while most of the rest of the nation languishes in crappy wintry weather. There is a physical relationship between our wonderful weather and their wicked weather I might point out with glee.
Yesterday, on my scanner I heard the first dispatch for a vegetation fire of the new year (for me anyway) on the Central Coast. It was one mile east of Twitchell Reservoir on Hwy. 166 east of Santa Maria. Cal Trans workers got it out before CalFire arrived (and given that fact Cal Trans might have been the ones who accidentally started it).
The significance of that minor incident is that it is the second week of February, a month 13 years ago along this very road wherein two CHP officers were killed by drowning in a night-time road washout and here we are 13 years later having a vegetation fire nearby in the dead of Winter as another doublet of simultaneous Santa Ana and Diablo Winds sets in at both ends of the state.
In other news, we still await NOAA's February 2011 La Nina Advisory which shall be posted here once it is published on their website.
On a side-note, where I'm headed to southeast Arizona along with southern New Mexico and western Texas are all under Red Flag Warnings for the second straight day.
