that the GPS doesn't require looking at. In my limited experience, GPS (and
also online mapping) don't always know everything they're expected to. My
daughter has been sent a round-about way by GPS and along a road that didn't
go through by online mapping.
And how will GPSs handle a freeway that's supposed to be there but
temporarily isn't?
KNBC couldn't say it but I can: LA has for decades relied on the highly
accurate and quite easy-to-use "Thomas Guide". If it's not in there, it
hasn't existed for a year yet. This is a far better resource than any local
map I've seen in LA or anywhere (and most cities I've lived in have nothing
equivalent).
=====
As far as the concept of needing an emergency kit in the car: This is needed
at any time. It is not an especial need at this time.
As far as I can see, there are not going to be widespread problems; the
problems will be only in the immediate area of either end of the closure.
The Sepulveda Pass will be shut off, so that won't be an issue. The
populated area between I-10 and the Pass will be congested, although little
local traffic takes the Freeway (mostly just the in-and-out), and the same
for between the 101 and the Pass.
People just aren't going to be stranded in their cars or anything.
