RE: [californiadisasters] soft drink bottles used for water

There is a difference between "food grade" and "UN standard for drinking water" in terms of the drums themselves.  Also, household bleach treatment is not recommended any more for either preserving water for future use or treatment of suspect water, for several reasons, one of which is that regular bleach is no longer adequate to kill cryptosporidium.  Also all of the old treatment dosages are wrong now that bleach concentrations have changed in recent years.

Costco currently has a 55 gallon food grade plastic drum with pump
and filter for about $120 delivered.. fill with water, add a couple
tsp of bleach and it's good for a year..

We got one and set it up - see it here - or go to costco.com and
search for 55 gallon:

We also have the water heater and a couple of neighbors with pools
and some filters that you would use when camping.. I think we have
the water handled..
