Re: [californiadisasters] Arizona Fire Deaths Prove No One Should Die For A House

This is an op-ed piece and it is by a professional and expert being both a member of the firefighting community (retired firefighter like you), a fire ecologist by education and now an assistant professor at the home of the Vandals and head of a pyrogeography unit there. And certainly given the wide variety of ecosystems in California, what is true for one is not necessarily true for another... or maybe it is: just depends. I posted it in the context of "if the shoe fits".

While the author makes some valid points, this is an op-ed piece, not a news article.   It is rife with commentary and biased opinions.  It should not be relied on for accuracy.

Some of the stated 'facts' are not pertinent to CA and opinions should be left out for 'news' articles.

Rather, I would ask the professionals for their opinions, should I want one.

Crystal A. Kolden, a fire ecologist and former U.S. Forest Service firefighter, is an assistant professor of geography at the University of Idaho, where she heads the pyrogeography lab.

No one should ever die to save a house.
