(10-06) 22:22 PDT -- A brush fire on Yerba Buena Island temporarily forced the closure of two eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge on Sunday night as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze, tying up traffic just as the 49ers game concluded, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fire, burning on the southern part of the island, caused a traffic backup extending into San Francisco, said CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt. Two lanes had been closed just before the tunnel through the island in the eastbound direction. As of 10 p.m., however, all lanes were open, the CHP said. The Treasure Island offramp from westbound I-80 remained closed.
The blaze, reported around 7:45 p.m., was not threatening any structures, and no injuries have been reported, Van Eckhardt said. There was a report of fireworks in the vicinity before the blaze, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
