Wildfire in Marin Co. beaten into submission

(10-06) 20:00 PDT -- A fire crackled over a steep hillside in Larkspur on Sunday but firefighters and aircraft brought the fire under control before it did any damage to homes or structures, said Marin County fire officials.The two-alarm blaze was first reported around 4 p.m. Sunday burning through a steep, heavily wooded area above Sunrise Lane near Marina Vista Avenue in Larkspur, according to Chief Chris Gray of the San Rafael Fire Department.
About 75 firefighters from Larkspur, San Rafael, five other departments in Marin County and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection battled the fire as it moved up the hill. A Cal Fire airplane dropped fire retardant and a helicopter poured water on the fire. The flames blackened almost two acres of trees and undergrowth. It was brought under control in about an hour, Gray said.
"Fortunately the weather conditions aided a quick response," Gray said. "There were only light winds and it was a little overcast, so there was higher humidity. That's the way we like it, but it is a reminder of the potential that is there."
No structures were damaged, no evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported, he said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, but investigators have deemed it suspicious, Gray said.
