"This is very steep terrain that the Tankers were operating in at the time of the accident, fire was advancing up the canyon wall and Tankers were attempting to hold the fire at the ridge line. CHP officer Lewis witnessed the S2T as did many other people in El Portal. Lewis stated that the aircraft impacted the canyon wall raining debris down onto highway 140. There were no reports of injury to anybody on the highway as it was closed in the area of the crash. Truly a sad day, Please pray for a miracle tonight."
