In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish Club will be leading the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish today. Please rise for the Pledge and feel free to join us in English or Spanish.
We will also be sharing a fact about Hispanic culture each Monday. The fact for today is: There are 1.1 million Hispanic veterans of the U.S. armed forces. Finally, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, el Club de Cultura Hispánica is sponsoring a Famous Hispanic American and Latinos in History contest.This contest will end tomorrow. See the display in front of the library and enter for your chance to win a free lunch from the Lava Pit courtesy of el Club.

SENIORS: Campus Specialities will be here during lunch on Wednesday and Thursday to take your orders for graduation announcements and cap and gowns outside of Activities. They will also be here Thursday evening in the gym lobby.

This week is Ally Week. What is Ally Week, you ask? Each October, the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network and students across the country, often as members of Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) or similar student clubs, celebrate Ally Week. Here at VVHS we are focusing this week on educating our school community on ways to be better allies. What is an Ally? We refer to allies as people who support the LGBTcommunity by advocating against the bullying and harassment that LGBT youth face in school. An ally works to end oppression by supporting and advocating for people who are stigmatized, or treated unfairly because of who they are. Anyone can be an ally! What can you do? During lunch, come to the A hall eatery and sign our Ally Poster, create an Ally sign and take a selfie and then tag @vvhs_gsa on Instagram or use hashtags #AllyWeek #BetterAllies.
SOPHOMORE BOARD: Class of 2017 will be having a class meeting in A101 on Wednesday at lunch. All sophomores are encouraged to attend!
OPERATION SMILE will be meeting on Tuesday at lunch in A101. We will be discussing the upcoming car wash and a Leadership Conference. Everyone is invited!

BOWLING is still looking for a little more participants - and definitely looking for more freshmen to take up the challenge and be the future of the bowling team by joining up now. Coach Hampel also hopes that the few bowlers from last year who have not yet made it out will be out this week. Finally a reminder that Maj. XC: will be running in the Rio Rancho Invite at 9 on Saturday.
VOLLEYBALL: plays Cibola in the Ring of Fire on Thursday at 6:30. This is their Pink Out game.
FOOTBALL: plays Rio Rancho at 7 at Community Stadium on Friday. We are the home team. It is a black out game.
