In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish Club will be leading the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish today. Please rise for the Pledge and feel free to join us in English or Spanish.
We will also be sharing a fact about Hispanic culture each Monday. The fact for today is: The term Hispanic or Latino, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, refers to Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race.
Finally, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, el Club de Cultura Hispánica is sponsoring a Famous Hispanic American and Latinos in History contest. See the display in front of the library and enter for your chance to win a free lunch from the Lava Pit courtesy of el Club. One winner will be chosen each week of this month.
We only have 3 days of school this week. Fall Break begins on Thursday. Today is an A day, Tuesday is a B Day and Wednesday will be a C-Day.
SENIORS: It is time to choose your class song, motto and flower. You may stop by activities and pick up a nomination form. You will be voting during advisory next Tuesday. You will also be receiving information about senior announcements and cap and gowns for graduation. Please plan to attend.
HOMECOMING: Powderpuff There will be a mandatory meeting TODAY in the lecture hall at lunch for all participants. If you do not attend this meeting you will be eliminated from the fun!
Attention Hawks: The Snack Bars served Pizza9 pizza for the past three days and will be serving Mario's pizza today through Wednesday. Come out and try it and let us know what you think!
There will be a Gay Straight Alliance meeting today at lunch in room A120. We will be finalizing plans for Ally Week. New and prospective members along with interested students are always welcome to attend

COUNSELING:
VVHS 9th Grade students, the Counseling Department is hosting a 9th Grade Parent Night tonight from 6:00 to 7:30pm in the VVHS PAC. Information to be shared includes topics of academic success, transitions, college admissions, VVHS student expectations. With your attendance extra credit for you student is available and snacks will be provided. Please plan on attending, hope to see you there.
Tuesday, October 7th is the Second Annual Westside College Fair. This year it will be held at Cibola High School from 6:00 to 8 pm. There are over 45 colleges signed up so don't miss it! This a great opportunity to ask questions about admissions, scholarships, and financial aid. There will also be several military recruiters on hand to answer questions.
PAGEANT OF THE BANDS: The Hawk Band will be participating in their first competition of the year at Wilson Stadium on Saturday. Please go out and support our amazing band.
ATHLETICS
There will be a mandatory meeting for all softball players and parents Tuesday at 6 pm in the JROTC Classroom. The meeting is for current softball team members as well as any person interested in trying out this spring. Make sure to bring your parents as Coach O'Meara will provide a lot of information about the upcoming season. If you have any questions, please visit Major Campbell in the JROTC classroom.
GIRLS SOCCER: They will play at Santa Fe this afternoon at 4 and they will play Atrisco on Thursday at the soccer complex.
XC: will run in APS Metro Invitational on Saturday at the Academy
VB: will play at Cleveland at 6:30 Tuesday and on Thursday in the Ring of Fire against Santa Fe at 6:30.
FOOTBALL: will play CIBOLA at Community Stadium Friday night at 7. We will be on the visiting team
SPIRIT WEEK:
Monday: Out Smart Cibola- dress like a nerd.
Tuesday: Hunt the Cougars- dress in camo or safari cloths
Wednesday: Hawk Nation – wear black
