Re: [californiadisasters] Official CalFire Butte Fire Report is released

Based on PG&E attitudes of the past, I figure PG&E won't care. They will just write it off as a part of doing business and pass the fine off onto it's customer base of ratepayers at the next California PUC rate setting meeting.

Corporate profit must be maintained at the highest maximum amount to keep the shareholders happy, and not to mention those rediculous performance bonuses for upper management.

I know Kim has other choices for the list besides Yahoo but I need one where I receive messages in my email when something happens. Anything that Twitter sends is about 24 hours late and that is no help. Thoughts?

Re: [californiadisasters] 1992 Los Angeles Riots, Saturday, 30 April 2016

The event was inevitable.... had it not been triggered by a high-profile trial it would have been triggered by something else.... the trigger and the causes are different things.

Between 5 P.M. and 6 P.M. on this date in 1992 the Los Angeles Riots began in two places. One was out in front of Parker Center (LAPD HQ) in downtown L.A. where an at-first peaceful protest turned violent. The other location was at the corner of Florence and Normandy when an angry crowd developed and was not immediately dispersed by the LAPD who withdrew instead. The situation subsequently cascaded out of control from both locations ultimately lasting three days. Over the three days of rioting 53 people were killed and 2,000 injured and nearly a billion dollars in losses were incurred, most if it in the neighborhoods of the rioters.

[californiadisasters] Paso Robles Cal Fire air base now open

CAL FIRE Air Base

CAL FIRE Paso Robles Air Base is now open. Photo courtesy of Cal Fire.

Air base 20 minute response time to fires within the area

–This week, the Cal Fire Paso Robles Air Base officially opened for the 2016 fire season. The air base emergency response air program includes two Grumman S-2T 1,200 gallon air tankers, and two OV-10A air tactical aircraft, the aircraft can reach most fires within 20 minutes.

The air tactical planes fly overhead directing the air tankers and helicopters to critical areas of the fire for retardant and water drops. The retardant used to slow or retard the spread of a fire is a slurry mix consisting of a chemical salt compound, water, clay or a gum-thickening agent, and a coloring agent.

Cal Fire air tankers and helicopters also transport firefighters, equipment and injured personnel. The aircraft are strategically located around the state at air bases and helicopter bases, like the Paso Robles air base. During high fire activity aircraft can be relocated statewide to provide air support.
