2014: A large southerly swell generated by a powerful winter storm in the South Pacific that first arrived at local beaches over the 4th of July weekend peaked on this day.
Surf heights exceeded 15 feet at The Wedge, and reached ten feet at Huntington Beach with widespread 6-8 foot sets along other south facing beaches.
Two people drowned including a lifeguard during a rescue attempt.
2011: A very strong thunderstorm developed south of Imperial near the Mexican border during the afternoon on the 7th of July.
Strong microburst winds and heavy rain impacted the community of Calexico, damaging homes, trees and power poles.2006: Thunderstorms dropped 0.75" in 15 minutes and 1.22" in 40 minutes at Yucaipa Ridge.
Flooding occurred along some Mill Creek tributaries.
Mud and rock debris covered parts of Valley of the Falls Drive.
2004: A tornado touched down near Rockwell Pass in Sequoia National Park at around 12,000 feet in elevation.
This is highest altitude ever that a tornado has been observed at in the United States.
1" diameter hail also accompanied the tornado for about 15 minutes.
2001: Strong thunderstorms in Baker, CA produced 1.54" of rain in a two hour period which caused several roads to flood.
A tornado touched down in Joshua Tree causing minor damage to homes and businesses.
The most significant report included damage to a roof of an abandoned house and a patio cover torn off another home.
2001: Strong thunderstorms hit the San Bernardino Mountains and the high desert. Several homes and businesses were flooded in Big Bear City.
0.25" of rain fell in five minutes at Lucerne Valley.
Roads were closed due to flash flooding and mud slides.
Runoff down the north slopes of the mountains sent several feet of water rushing across Highway 247.
Flash flooding in Lucerne Valley and Apple Valley resulted in seven high water rescues.
A tornado hit Twentynine Palms and the town of Joshua Tree.
Minor damage was incurred to homes and businesses in Joshua Tree.
1998: Monsoon thunderstorms dropped 1" diameter hail in Agua Caliente (in the Anza Borrego Desert).
1991: A F0 tornado moved across Amargosa Valley, NV (just east of Death Valley).
1984: Highest minimum temperature records were set each day in San Diego for 15 consecutive days, starting on this day and ending on 7.24.
1918: It was 40° F in Victorville, the lowest temperature on record for July.
1905: Carmel Valley had a high temperature of 116° F.
