Thunderstorms ignite more than 14 fires in Klamath National Forest

YREKA, Calif. — The U.S. National Forest Service Klamath says thunderstorms overnight ignited more than 14 fires in the Klamath National Forest.
As of Saturday morning, the lightning resulted in at least 14 new fires on the Goosenest, Happy Camp/Oak Knoll and Salmon/Scott Ranger Districts according to the U.S. Forest Service Klamath.
Authorities say all these fire are less than one acre in size, with several only a tenth of an acre.
U.S. National Forest Service Klamath says resources are on the scene of ten fires and firefighters are making their way in to the other four.
All the ranger districts received significant moisture with these storms.
Authorities say even with some areas getting a good wetting rain, the fuels dry out quickly and a small smoldering fire can quickly grow to a major fire.
Fire staff will continue to monitor the landscape for any additional fires that may show Saturday or over the next few days.
Authorities want to remind people to please continue to be vigilant in preventing fires.
