Many families here at VVHS had children who attended Chamiza Elementary and had the honor and privilege of meeting and working with teacher Sandy Warrick, who passed away last week. Please see information below if you are interested in participating in the baby food drive in her honor.
"Sandy taught for 30+ years in the public schools with her last years being surrounded by her beloved kindergartners at Chamiza Elementary. Sandy Warrick is one of those teachers who never leaves your heart. She retired this past school year and was happy to have spent the summer with her wonderful husband Phil. Over the years, Sandy and Phil taught and/or tutored what seemed like all of the kids in Albuquerque.
Sandy's passion was to teach her "kids" about giving back to the world. She did this for the last 12+ years by having her kindergartners sponsor a baby jar food drive at Chamiza. She taught many great math, reading, and writing lessons around this charitable event. She also had her class write a book about collecting food for babies and gave it to Scholastic Books.
If you are one of the LUCKY families to have been touched by Mrs. Warrick, you already know what she would want us to do. Yes, honor her by buying food for the hungry babies of Albuquerque."
*LBJ Middle School will be collecting baby food starting today, November 10!
*Chamiza Elementary, located at 5401 Homestead Circle, is hosting a Sandy Warrick Baby Food Drive Nov. 17-21 if you would like to drop off food and supplies for babies.
