Notes:		At 1:50 PM this date in 2005 a fire started near the intersection of the Simi Valley Freeway and Topanga Blvd. and pushed by strong Santa Ana Winds burned into Ventura County charring 24,175 acres and destroying 3 homes and damaging one other one and destroying 3 commercial structures and damaging two others along with destroying 7 outbuildings.

Perhaps some interesting developments are starting to be visible at El Hierro:
The number of earthquakes remains elevated (13 yesterday, 4 so far today), not usual compared to previous days, but their location and depths become more scattered, and several quakes including some above M2 are at about 15 km depth, i.e. inbetween the "usual" layers at 10 km (western El Golfo) or 20 km (southern part of the island) depth.
A further inflation of about 2 cm has been measured at Restinga in the past 2 days, and at El Pinar, about 3 cm inflation is visible.
The Frontera GPS station shows deflation of approx. 1 cm (probably because the epicenter are no longer only concentrated in the El Golfo Bay).
All 3 mentioned stations show almost no horizontal movement since many days.

The number of earthquakes remains elevated, but stable with about 10 usually small events detected per day. There are 2 areas where they occur - in a N-S zone in the western El Golfo bay at about 10 km depth and scattered in the SW part of the island near El Pinar at about 20 km depth.

1970: Drought in Southern California climaxed and hot Santa Ana winds blew starting on 9.25 and ending on 9.30.
Winds peaked at 60 mph at Cuyamaca.
The winds sparked the Laguna Fire, one of the largest in California history.
Eight were killed, 400 homes were destroyed, and 185,000 acres were burned as of this day from Cuyamaca to Alpine.
In all, the fire consumed whole communities of interior San Diego County.
Half a million acres were burned and caused fifty million dollars in damage.

1966: Pismo Beach hit 100° establishing a monthly high temperature mark.

1963: The high temperature at Lovelock was 93°.

1932: Heavy rains starting on this day and ending on 10.1 came from a dying tropical cyclone.
It brought flooding to parts of the mountains and deserts of Southern California.
4.38" of rain fell at Tehachapi in seven hours on 9.30.
Floods in Tehachapi resulted in 15 deaths.

1926: A wildfire threatened Carson City.
Five firefighters were killed when they were trapped by flames in Clear Creek Canyon.

1918: Susanville recorded 1.37" of precipitation.

[californiadisasters] Coastal NorCal Hot Weather Statement (9/27/12-PM)

...MUCH WARMER WEATHER ON TAP FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO AND MONTEREY  BAY REGION...    A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE OVER THE SAN FRANCISCO AND  MONTEREY BAY REGION STARTING ON SATURDAY AND CONTINUE INTO EARLY NEXT  WEEK. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM EACH DAY AND HIT SOME OF THE HIGHEST  LEVELS SINCE JUNE. INLAND SPOTS WILL LIKELY SEE HIGHS IN THE 90S  TO LOWER 100S WHILE MANY COASTAL SPOTS WILL EVEN HAVE HIGHS IN  THE 70S TO LOWER 80S OVER THE WEEKEND INTO MONDAY. AT THIS TIME  THE WARMEST DAYS FOR MOST COMMUNITIES SHOULD BE ON SUNDAY AND  MONDAY. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL DROP BACK INTO THE 50S AND 60S FOR  MANY LOCATIONS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT.    THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH THE AMOUNT OF HEATING FOR THE  UPCOMING WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK...HOWEVER SOME OF THE MODEL  GUIDANCE DOES INDICATE THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAT ADVISORY CONDITIONS  TO BE REACHED. PERSONS IN THE AREA...ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH OUTDOOR  PLANS...SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR SOME OF THE HOTTEST WEATHER OF THE  YEAR.    $$    BELL

...HOT AND DRY OFFSHORE CONDITIONS WITH ELEVATED FIRE DANGER ACROSS SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY... AN UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BUILD ACROSS CALIFORNIA SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY. THIS COMBINED WITH OFFSHORE FLOW NEAR THE SURFACE WILL BRING HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS TO MUCH OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA. LIGHT OFFSHORE BREEZES WILL FIRST IMPACT PORTIONS OF THE FORECAST AREA ON SUNDAY...WHEN TEMPERATURES WILL SOAR TO BETWEEN 100 AND 105 DEGREES ACROSS MANY VALLEY LOCATIONS. EVEN INLAND PORTIONS OF THE COASTAL PLAIN WILL CLIMB WELL INTO THE 90S ON SUNDAY. [Volcano_Vista_HS] Homecoming Football Game--Friday, September 28, 2012

Your Volcano Vista Hawks Varsity Football Team will be taking on the Onate Knights for HOMECOMING. We need everyone to come out and support the team. The game is Friday night (September 28, 2012) at Milne Stadium. Game time is 7 PM.

We have 250 pairs of Thunderstix for the student section to MAKE SOME NOISE! Members of the student senate will be passing them out.

We will also be presenting the 2012 Homecoming Court at the game!

GO HAWKS!! Hope to see you there!
