RE: [californiadisasters] Bomb Guy

Working on the flight deck of the USS Kitty Hawk took some of the same qualities and who would ever want to work 20+ hrs. on the world's smallest airport in the middle of the ocean.? I had my share of close calls and so have my friends. The 3" thick arresting cable snapped when the 113 bird from VFA-102 came in for a landing at 2200 hrs. for carrier quals. That accident resulted in a Capt's. Mass of the LT. in charge and it went all the way down to the E-1.

Another accident that happened on the USS Forrestal  was an ordinance accident, where a missile fired on accident from a jet and it struck another jet. Then a series of unfortunate events occurred that resulted in the complete loss of the ship and severe casualties among the rescuers and crew.

The guy I know really well is ex FBI SSSABT as in Senior Supervisory Special Agent Bomb Technician as well as US Army Tech Escort Alpha.

Cool and calm do not do the man justice.

He said that to be EOD too nerves of steel, balls of brass, and one moment of shear stupidity.

I knew the EOD team that was deployed with us and they were some of the coolest people on the boat, besides the SEALS that were with us too. I moved from the Diamondbacks to VAW-115 (Liberty Bells) Hawkeye early warning squadron. We still had explosives on the Hawkeyes in the parachutes and the O2 tanks in the nose of the aircraft. I was thinking of being in EOD and I still am.

Uh huh.

I was in ordnance in the military, and knew the EOD guys. All I worked with
was in good condition and stable. I never was tempted to volunteer for EOD.

True very true. Ever see the shirt "I am a Bomb Tech, if you see me running
keep up". Says a lot.
