2001: Heavy rain washed out several roads in western Fresno County including Highway 33/198.
From late on March 4th to March 6th, Coalinga received 2.99" of rain.

2000: A storm that started on 3.4 and ended on 3.6 brought up to 17 inches of snow in 24 hours to the mountains.
14 inches fell at Forest Falls.
Strong thunderstorms produced golf ball size hail at Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Running Springs.
Strong thunderstorm wind gusts measured 60 mph at Huntington Beach.
Property was damaged and trees were downed along the coast from Huntington Beach to Sunset Cliffs.
Three illegal immigrants died south of Mt. Laguna.

1995: Heavy rain that started on this day and ended on 3.6 dropped six inches in 24 hours and 10.34 inches in 48 hours at Idyllwild.
The six inches gave this day the third greatest daily amount on record (but only the second greatest daily amount for March).
8.57 inches fell in 24 hours and 14.58 inches fell in 48 hours at Palomar Mountain.
Floodwaters washed out a stretch of I-5, closing it for over a week.
The overall toll from a series of Pacific storms: 27 killed, $3 billion in damage, and 10,000 homes damaged.

1994: Severe thunderstorms spawned an F0 tornado that touched down near Lemoore and dropped hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter near Kerman that resulted in $6 million in crop damage.

1992: A series of storms that began on 3.1 and ended on 3.7 brought one to four inches of rainfall and local flooding.

1992: A Pacific storm system unleashed 1 to 3 inches of rain in 2 hour window, washing out a bridge in Mariposa County and putting part of Highway 41 in Madera County underwater.

1987: Gusty downslope winds blew across Kern County: a 100 mph gust was recorded at the Wheeler Ridge Pumping Plant and a gust of 49 mph clocked at Bakersfield.

1978: Heavy rain began on 3.4 and ended on this day.
20 deaths resulted from flooding and mudslides in the LA area.
Three drowning deaths and disastrous flooding occurred in Lakeside.
26 died and 600 were left homeless in Tijuana and Ensenada.

1972: It was 100° in Palm Springs, the earliest date in the year to reach the century mark on record.

1948: It was 28° in Santa Ana, the lowest temperature on record for March.

1943: A major storm struck the San Bernardino Mountains and nearby areas on 3.3 to this day.
During one eleven hour period, 5.25 inches of rain fell in Crestline.
Victorville had a storm total of 1.82 inches.
Only minor flood damage and closed roads were reported around Fontana.

1933: Strong east winds contributed to a fire in the De Luz area (north of Fallbrook).
It spread rapidly westward and scorched more than 800 acres.

1894: The low temperature of 36° at San Diego on this day was the lowest on record for March.
