2005: An F0 tornado struck and damaged an olive packing plant just west of Ballico (Merced Co.).
2001: Late season freeze across the central San Joaquin Valley caused $31.9 million in damages to crops, especially grapes.
Lows were as cold as 27 degrees in parts of Madera County.
Fresno recorded a record low of 35 degrees.
1999: A severe thunderstorm hits Hanford, Visalia, and surrounding Kings,Tulare and Fresno counties, causing over $25 million in hail damage to crops.
1989: A major heat wave lasted from late March to mid April.
Many monthly record high temperatures were set for April during the wave, including 112° at Palm Springs on 4.7 (the earliest date in the season to record 110° or higher), 111° at Borrego Springs on this day (the earliest date in the season to record 110° or higher), 106° at LA on 4.6, 104° at Riverside on 4.6, 103° at Escondido on 4.7, 101° at Tustin, 98° at San Diego on 4.6, and 76° at Big Bear Lake on 4.7 and on this day.
1975: The Padres' home game against the San Francisco Giants was rained out at (then) San Diego Stadium.
This also occurred the next day on 4.9.1975.
The Angels' home game at Anaheim Stadium against the Kansas City Royals was also rained out (though not the next day).
This was the first regular season rainout in nearly 10 years for the Angels, since September 19, 1965, back at Dodger Stadium.
1965: A cold late-season storm that started on 4.7 and ended on 4.11 brought heavy rainfall and snowfall to the region.
Over the period 7.66 inches of precipitation fell in Lake Arrowhead (with nearly 50 inches of new snow).
5.44 inches fell in Palomar Mountain (with 13 inches of snow), 4.36 inches in Big Bear Lake, 4.25 inches at Cuyamaca, and 3.14 inches in Idyllwild (with 24 inches of snow). 1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell across the coastal basin.
Mountain roads were closed. On this day a tornado hit Costa Mesa.
1950: 20.0 inches of snow fell at Truckee, with 16.0 inches at Woodfords (Alpine Co.).
1944: Bakersfield clocked sustained 60 mph from the north-northwest.
These are the highest sustained winds on record.
1926: Wettest April day ever in Fresno, 1.81" fell.
1893: Coldest ever in April in Bakersfield, 28 degrees.
