05/08/2012 | 0700 | ECCs in Northern California have switched from once-per-week Wednesday reporting of Daily SIT Report data to at least 5-days per week, Monday through Friday, after 1700. Copies of the SIT Report will published on the Predicitve Service's page Monday - Friday, until fire activity and staffing allow for 7-day publishing by 1800 each day. According to last night's SIT Report, Geographic Area units have reported a year-to-date total of 459 fires for 736 acres, and have achieved 185 prescribed fire projects for 27,865 acres. http://gacc.nifc.gov/oncc/predictive/intelligence/situation/sitreport.htm |
05/03/2012 | 0715 | Precipitation data compiled as of May 1 by the National Drought Mitigation Center indicates the total area of California classified to be in "Severe" short-term drought conditions has decreased slightly over the past week. The weekly Drought Monitor graphic for California shows 15.84% of the state now has no drought conditions (no change from last week's report), 25.19% is classified as "Abnormally Dry" (increasing from 23.93%), 37.83% as "Moderate" (a slight increase from 37.36%), and 21.14% is classified as "Severe" (decreasing from 22.87% last week). Overall, 1.73% of the State has improved from the "Severe" to the "Moderate" category. Much of the northern coast and interior foothills of Northern California are now classfied as having no drought conditions; however, the northeastern corner of the state is still considered to be experiencing "Severe" short-term drought. |
