This was just up the street from me. The Santa Ana winds kicked in
early this morning. I was concerned it would spread though a sector of
older, densely overgrown homes. It could have been a lot worse.
Then strong winds blew some embers that started a spot fire several
hundred yards downwind in an overgrown backyard with a lot of junk. A
crew got on that immediately and knocked it down.
This is the second time recently that a fire nearby burned across an
open field and spread to houses on the downwind side. There is no fire
marshal enforcing weed clearance around the field perimeters.
