[californiadisasters] North Ops News & Notes Update (9/06/13-7PM)

Date Time News and Notes
09/06/2013 1900

CA-SRF Corral Complex:12,295 acres, 79% contained. Expected containment 09/10/2013. Pincha-Tulley /Mendes, Unified Command. The fire was smoldering and creeping with rolling material still a concern. Heavy dead logs within the interior continue to smolder.  The fire is expected to slowly spread towards the southwest into Horse Linto Creek and to the northwest in the South Fork of the Tish Tang Creek. There is a potential for the fire to move to the west, which would threaten the eastern boundary of the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation.

CA-KNF Forks Complex: 35,945 acres, 66% contained. Expected containment 09/15/2013. Johnson, NORCAL 2 .
Fire will have minimal movement or spread. A dry offshore pattern is expected into Friday returning the area to warmer temperatures, low RH, and north/east winds. Fire will continue to have minimal movement/spread but fire activity could increase due to this pattern. A small amount of fire growth is expected in Division H/G where pockets of heavy fuels continue to burn in the China and Granite Creek drainages. The fire continues to be fuels and slope driven as general winds are rarely surfacing in the drainage bottoms. No movement of fire outside of the control lines is anticipated.

CA-MDF Davis Complex: 97 acres, 100% contained.  Toomey, ITC3. Acreage reported is FRA lands only. Mop up and patrol continues. Demob of excess resources planned for tomorrow.

CA-MDF Rail Fire: 68 acres, 50% containment. Expected containment 9/8/2013. Hunter, ITC3. Multiple snags within the fire perimeter remain a concern. Crews continue to improve containment lines and mop up. No projected movement of the fire is expected under current weather forecasts.

CA-SRF Corral Complex: 12,295 acres, 73% contained. Expected containment 09/10/2013. Pincha-Tulley /Mendes, Unified Command. The fire is expected to slowly spread towards the southwest into Horse Linto Creek and to the northwest in the South Fork of the Tish Tang Creek. There is a potential for the fire to move to the west, which would threaten the eastern boundary of the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation. The fire was smoldering and creeping with rolling material still a concern. Heavy dead logs within the interior continue to smolder.   A tentative plan for transition to a Type 3 organization has been scheduled for Tuesday 9/10.

CA-KNF Forks Complex: 35,915 acres, 66% contained. Expected containment 09/15/2013. Johnson, NORCAL 2 .
Fire will have minimal movement or spread. Behind the low pressure, a dry offshore pattern is expected into Friday returning the area to warmer temperatures, low RH, and north/east winds. The alignment of the topography will further reduce the effect of these winds, which are predicted to be light. Previous high moisture conditions will need several operational periods to dry in order to change fire behavior, therefore moderating any effects of a short term dry/north wind condition. Fire will continue to have minimal movement/spread. A small amount of fire growth is expected in Division H/G where pockets of heavy fuels continue to burn in the China and Granite Creek drainages. Smoldering and creeping is expected to continue in Granite and China Creek drainages during a shortened burn period. No movement of fire outside of the control lines is anticipated. Demob continues as resources time out.

CA-MDF Davis Complex: 160 acres, 20% contained. Expected containment 9/7/2013. Scofield, Type 3 IC.
Fire is located near the community Davis Creek.  Complex consists of four fires.  Two fires are on SRA lands and are contained at 10 acres.  Two fires are on FRA MDF lands and have burned together for 150 acres.  Fire spread towards the community of Davis Creek is a concern. Fire exhibited running, torching and spotting during yesterday's operational period. Significant progress was made overnight on handline construction.  Handline construction will continue today, along with handline improvement and mop up around structures.

CA-MDF Rail Fire: 100 acres, 0% contained. Expected containment 9/8/2013. Otterson, Type 3 IC.
Fire is located 11 miles NW of Canby. Fire exhibited running, torching and spotting during yesterday's operational period. Indirect dozer line has been constructed around the fire, however multiple spot fires have been reported outside the fire perimeter.  The fire is expected to spread to the northeast and will move into heavy timber if indirect containment line does not hold.  Hunter (IMT3) from Lakeview, OR will transition with local unit this morning.
