| Notes: | On this night in 1995 raging El Nino floodwaters washed out both the north and south bound Interstate-5 bridges over the Arroyo Pasajero in southwest Fresno County. This occurred in the darkness of a stormy El Nino night following epic rains across Central California from the Central Coast to the Central Valley. Floodwaters undermined the supports to the elevated freeway structures leading to their collapse into the dark roiling waters. Motorists on the freeway unaware of the danger ahead sped into the abyss and seven people were killed. It took the better part of a month to replace the destroyed spans. | |
