A brush fire has prompted evacuations on Camp Pendleton in San Diego County.
Deluz military housing, Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary School and the Naval Weapons Station Fallbrook have been evacuated to the Paige Fieldhouse.
The fire started around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday near the Naval Weapons Station gate on the eastside of base near Fallbrook.
Aerial pictures showed black smoke and orange flames burning near apparent storage units.
Cal Fire, which has dubbed the fire the Tomahawk Fire, has dispatched a crew to Camp Pendleton. The Tomahawk Fire has burned approximately 100 acres so far, according to Cal Fire.
Sgt. Matt Klopp hopes the fire doesn't shift toward base.
"Over the gate there, it's pretty much just open grass," Klopp said.
At 12 p.m. Wednesday, Camp Pendleton was 95 degrees with 2 percent humidity and wind gusts up to 29 mph, according to NBC 7's Whitney Southwick.
