Good post, good thoughts! It is hard to tell what kind of slant we are getting in the public reports. I always wonder about what is happening behind the scenes on research about the end-Cretaceous event. Gerta Keller thinks she has convincing evidence against the impact theory as the cause of the extinctions but sometimes she sounds more interested in knocking off the prevailing theory and making a name for herself. Ideas on that seem to go back and forth. Have you been keeping up with it?

This comet theory is not false nor is it"disproved" by this followup study ( especially where another study did find markers in the YD zone)-- It says that the correlation has not been found( in this study). In the body of the formal study it says most of the sites lie outside or are un-dateable for one reason or another-- the YD window in THIS Study. It doesn't address other studies which have found differently.
