We ALL do stupid things occasionally (I sometimes wonder how I made it through my teenage years). In almost all cases, it isn’t ignorance (which can be fixed) but was an informed decision (like the hikers, who SHOULD have checked the forecast, DUH).

As long as I've been living in the LA area, every time we've had rains,
we've had at least one case of a person or persons needed rescue (or being
beyond rescue) in the flood channels and at least one case of a person or
persons crossing, against all advice, signs, barricades, flooded
roadway--often a rain-swollen Lytle Creek.
As has been stated on this group numerous times, "You can fix stupid."
