Re: [californiadisasters] Re: Earthquake Didn't Cause Mystery Stink in San Diego Area

Several years ago in the Town of Colonie, NY, in the wee hours of the
morning a wrecker operator smelled gas as he passed through a neighborhood
(on a main road with a 40 mph speed limit). He stopped, called his
dispatcher who called the "fire department".

In Colonie, the Town Police dispatch all fire calls (almost all volunteer
departments, though that's not necessarily relevant here). Dispatch sent a
PD unit to investigate.

Upon arrival, the PD unit confirmed odor of gas and requested FD. Then the
house disintegrated in a fireless explosion.

Just call the FD! <whine>

We had huge problems with the Gas Company not calling for a FD response on
an odor if gas back in the old days in NJ. That ended when a 3 story
tenement blew up killing 3 and injuring 6 in Camden.

gas company to report odors. The gas company is far too casual.
