Incident Name: Keene Complex Location: South West Kern County,
Tehachapi Area


Incident Command: CAL FIRE Incident Command Team # 6 has established Unified Command with the Kern County Fire Department


Start Date: September 10, 2011
Cause: Lightning

Firefighter Injuries: 2

Total Personal: 1,701


Keene Complex is managing five fires totaling 7,567 acres. The fires are 92% contained:


Indian Branch

Location: In the area of Piute Road and Indian Creek Road

Acres: Estimated 2500

Containment: 40%

Expected Containment: Unknown

Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Baker Branch

Location: West side of Walker Road

Acres:1200

Estimated Containment: 90%

Expected Containment: Unknown

Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Hart Branch

Location: West side of Walker Road
Acres:100

Estimated Containment: 80%

Expected Containment: Unknown

Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Harper Branch

Location: West side of Walker Road

Acres:225

Estimated Containment: 80%

Expected Containment: Unknown

Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Black Branch

Location: Between Harts Flat Road and Black Mountain Road

Acres: Estimated 3000

Containment: 80% Expected

Containment: Unknown

 Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Caliente Branch

Location: North of Highway 58 and Bealville Road

Acres:542

Estimated Containment: 100%

 Structures Damaged: 0 Structures Destroyed: 0


Current Situation:
Firefighters are making good progress constructing containment lines and mopping-up around several of the fires. There may be smoke in the area of the Indian Fire due to suppression efforts. Firefighters are still searching for new fires that were caused by lightning. Field Observation teams have been sent to all branches to accurately map the fire boundaries.

 Caliente Bodfish Road @ Walker Basin Road: (Residents allowed with ID onto Walker Basin Road from Lake Isabella)
 Keene @ Woodfood Tehachapi Road (Residents allowed with ID)
 Woodford Tehachapi Road @ Tehachapi Loop (Residents allowed with ID)

Location: 5 miles southeast of Arvin County: Kern County

Acres: 23,866 acres % Containment: 30% contained


Start Date & Time: Sept. 10, 2011, 4:00 a.m. Expected Containment: Sept. 15, 2011
Injuries: 1 Cause: Lightning
Structures Threatened: 2,300 Structures Destroyed: 0


EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT ASSIGNED:
Fire Engines: 90 Fire Crews: 35 Bulldozers: 27
Airtankers: 6 Helicopters: 8 Water Tenders: 3
Total Personnel: 1152


Current Situation: Fire activity increased yesterday afternoon on the southeast portion of the fire as it
moved up to the Stallion Springs area. Overnight, firefighters worked to protect homes in the area.
Despite the increased fire activity, no structures were destroyed. Today, temperatures will be a bit warmer
than yesterday. Light winds are expected and more thunderstorms are likely.


This complex is made up of four fires:


Comanche Fire – 23,100 acres – 30% contained


Knob Fire – 700 acres – 100% contained


Wolf Fire – 16 acres – 100% contained


Harris Fire – 50 acres – 100% contained


Evacuations: A recommended evacuation order remains in effect for the Stallion Springs area.


Evacuation Centers: Jacobsen Junior High School, 711 Anita, Tehachapi


Road Closures: Comanche Point Road at Stallion Springs Drive


Cooperating Agencies: CAL FIRE, Kern County Fire Department, Stallion Springs Police Department,
Bear Valley Police Department, California Highway Patrol, American Red Cross, CalEMA, So Cal
Edison, Tejon Ranch, Department of Water Resources, Kern County Sheriff's Department.
