I met the author (Sue) at a New Year's Eve party this past Saturday. (Turns out she's the wife of someone I was in grad school with at Northwestern.) She has a degree in creative writing from University of Iowa and has rather interesting stories to tell about her travels. My gf the geology major had a nice chat with her. AND the stone on her wedding ring came from Dave's Rock Shop in Evanston.
