[Geology2] Some expert(s) say that an earthquake in Ohio was not a natural event...

From Reuters:

Some expert(s) say that a recent small earthquake in Ohio was not a
natural event, but rather it was a man-made event caused by processes
related to the extraction of natural gas and other petroleum in a region

around Youngstown...

"CLEVELAND (Reuters) - A 4.0 magnitude earthquake in Ohio on New Year's
Eve did not occur naturally and may have been caused by
[the] high-pressure injection [of liquids] related to oil and gas
exploration and production, an expert hired by the State of Ohio said on

Tuesday."

"The Ohio Department of Natural Resources suspended operations on
Sunday at five deep-well sites in Youngstown, Ohio, where the
injection of water [had been] taking place, while [the
department] evaluates seismological data from a rare quake in the
area. These wells are about 9,000 feet deep, and [they] are used to
dispose of water from oil and gas wells."

"[This] process is related to fracking, the controversial injection of
chemical-laced water and sand into [the] [bed]rock to release oil and
gas. [Some] critics say that the high-pressure injection of the liquid
causes seismic activity."

My correspondent adds:

"There have been similar problems in the rather-recent past. There was
the Rocky Mountain Arsenal not too far north of Denver, Colorado, and at

that one, scientists and engineers for the U.S. Army were carrying out
experimental work and pilot production of poison gasses, etc. As a
byproduct of this, a considerable amount of VERY contaminated water was
produced. The commanders of chemical warfare for the Army decided to
dispose of it by drilling deep wells from the grounds of the arsenal,
and then pumping that crap down the wells under high pressure. That
definitely caused earthquakes in that area, shaking the city of Denver
and its suburbs."
