Priorities include protecting the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) major energy transmission line running through the fire area and critical Sage Grouse habitat. |

08/07/2012 | 2000 | CA-KNF Goff Fire. 10+ acres, 0% contained. Located 10 miles northeast of Happy Camp. IA resources were pulled off the line today due to fire behavior and safety concerns from rollout in steep creek drainages and falling snags from 1987 burn. One Type 3 Helispot is the only current access into the fire. Currently reassessing suppression strategy. |
08/07/2012 | 2000 | CA-KNF Dillon Fire. 318 acres, 100% contained. No traffic control on Highway 96 in the fire area. Last report unless significant activity occurs. |
08/07/2012 | 2000 | CA-PNF Chips Fire.16,787 acres, 10% contained. California IMT 1 (McGowan) is assigned. Crews continue to be challenged by numerous spot fires along the north portions of the fire in Div Y and Div Z, including an approximately 600 acre slope-over in the Yellow Creek drainage; in which crews are constructing direct hand line when the opportunity is available. Three separate fingers in Div Y have established in the Grizzly Creek drainage. A small spot fire (approx. 5 acres) occurred across the dozer line in Div Z toward the Mosquito Creek drainage; ground and air resources are attempting to contain the spot. Air resources continue to be limited due to heavy smoke conditions and severely limit mapping capabilities. Other concerns continue to include the snag loading (50-100 per acre) in and near the fire perimeter. The large dead and down material, combined with very difficult access (road and foot travel) for resources reduces the ability of taking direct action on fire flanks |
