[Volcano_Vista_HS] VVHS Announcements--Tuesday, April 2, 2013



Teacher please turn on your projectors and VCR's for an short video following announcements. We will continue to have audio announcements until we receive our replacement bulb for the film studio. We will let you know when the studio is up and running again.

Congratulations to this week's students that were recognized for demonstrating the core values of our school Safety, Organization, Achievement and Respect.  Way to SOAR!   Also, remember you can turn in SOAR cards for merchandise every Friday at the SOAR store in H Hall near DECA Store.  The following are the six students that were randomly drawn for our weekly prize:

Class of 2014:  There will be a mandatory meeting on Wednesday during lunch in Mrs. Wells room to discuss prom. It is very important that all but those selling prom tickets attend.

The Class of 2015 will have a class meeting in Mrs. Martin's room on Wednesday April 3rd. 

Spanish Club: This week, we are responsible for Hawk Pride. Meet in the Freshman Academy office every day this week at 11:20 to begin. 

Art Club meeting today during lunch in room G113.

There will be an Operation Smile meeting today in A101!

Attention MESA members: There will be a Wednesday lunch meeting to plan our parent night and review the points you need to finish out the year.  The meeting will be in room H-207...Please attend.

All students and staff need to go to the Herff Jones website: teacherShoutOut.com, search for Volcano Vista, and vote for your favorite teacher. The teacher could win $2500 and the school could win $2500. You may vote once a day.

Seniors if you ordered announcements from Campus Specialties they will be distributed during lunch by the bookroom window.

Class Office: Any freshman, sophomore or junior interested in running for class office please stop by the activities office at lunch today to sign up. All classes have a president, vice president and secretary. You must meet NMAA eligibility requirements.

Run for the Zoo are due to Coach Nord by Wednesday at lunch or before would be nice. It is $10 for the one miler and $12 for the timed 5k and 10k. Go run with the Zebras!

Prom is this Saturday at the convention center. Today is the last day to purchase your tickets for $20.00. The price increases to $25.00 tomorrow. CARE ABOUT YOURSELF...CARE ABOUT YOUR DATE....STAY DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE AT PROM. SIGN THE PROM PLEDGE! TODAYS PROM PLEDGE WINNER IS KIEL BLACK. YOU MAY PICK UP YOUR PRIZE PACK AT THE PLEDGE TABLE DURING LUNCH.

COUNSELING

Seniors: The Smithsonian Latino Center is accepting applications for the 2013 Young Ambassadors Program being held June 23 through August 2. Up to 24 students will be selected for this all-expense paid, interdisciplinary training seminar in Washington, D.C., and a four-week paid internship in a museum and cultural institution. The deadline for all applications is Friday, April 12, before 5 p.m. EDT.  See Mrs. Sandy in room E224 for more information.

Seniors: To receive the Bridge scholarship at CNM you MUST complete the FAFSA by May 1st. To complete the FAFSA go to www.fafsa.gov or see Mrs. Sandy in room E224 for help.

All seniors who have completed their FAFSA by June 30th should complete the Student Survey Link at www.fafsanm.org to be entered in an additional drawing for $500 scholarships.

Texas Tech will be here during lunch today. Stop by the F-hall lunch area to get more information on attending Texas Tech.

Seniors: If you are interested in attending the Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy, see Mrs. Sandy in room E224 for scholarship and application information.

If your GPA is no greater than a 2.4 and you would like to continue your education after graduating from high school…either through a University, Community College, Vocational School, or Technical school… see Mrs. Sandy in Room E224 for a great scholarship opportunity.

UNM's Army ROTC will be at VVHS on Wednesday during lunch. Stop by the F-Hall lunch area to learn more about the program.

ATHLETICS

  • The Baseball Hawks will play the Vikings today at 4.
  • Our softball team will play Sandia at 4 today.
