Volcanic activity worldwide 12 Apr 2014: Fuego, Nyamuragira, Tungurahua, Ubinas, San CristobalSaturday Apr 12, 2014 MODIS hot spot at Nyamuragia (single spot in center) and Nyiragongo (large spot bottom) volcanoes (ModVolc, Univ. Hawaii) The increased rise of magma to the crater has been producing stronger and more frequent explosions, at averages of 8 per hour reported in last night's special bulletin of the volcano observatory. ... [read more] San Cristobal (Nicaragua): A small eruption probably occurred last evening. VAAC Washington issued an alert against a possible ash plume at 8,000 ft (2.4 km) altitude drifting west of the volcano. The seismic signal shows an increased tremor signal today and the numerous aftershocks of the recent magnitude 6 earthquakes near Lake Managua. Tungurahua (Ecuador): A lava flow descended from the volcano's summit crater cn the upper NW flank between 10-11 April. The flow likely appeared early of 10 April, it appearance was documented on both visual and infrared photos and corresponds to a tremor signal detected by the observatory. In the afternoon of Thursday, its front was between the Mandur and Hacienda canyons at 3400 m elevation. By last night, it had only advanced a bit and apparently stopped by around 23:30 local time. Its estimated length is about 3 km from the inner crater. Ubinas (Peru): Activity at the volcano has been increasing over the past week, both the number and size of explosions and the corresponding seismic activity. Explosions on 9 April produced ash plumes that reached up to 3 km height, which is a significant increase compared to the smaller ones that had been occurring previously with 1.5-2 km tall plumes. Light ash fall occurred in areas to the NE, in areas up to 20 km distance including the villages Lloque, Chojata, and Ichuna. For the first time in the current eruption, incandescent lava fragments up to 20 cm in size were ween seen during 7-8 April. They were ejected to distances of up to 1 km from the crater. ... However the latter could be entirely be coming from neighboring Nyiragongo volcano with its large active lava lake, so the situation remains unclear. http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/volcano-activity/news/43904/Volcanic-activity-worldwide-12-Apr-2014-Fuego-Nyamuragira-Tungurahua-Ubinas-San-Cristobal.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Web Cam Set up at Grímsvötn VolcanoBy Zoë Robert April 13, 2014Archive photo. Photo: Páll Stefánsson. A web camera has been set up at Grímsfjall looking west over Grímsvötn volcano, one of the most volcanically active spots in Iceland, ruv.is reports. The camera sends images every ten minutes and geophysicists will be able to receive a live feed in order to monitor glacial outburst floods and volcanic activity. The first images will be broadcast on Monday. The camera was set up by the Civil Protection Agency along with the 112 national emergency number and the Icelandic Society for Glacial Research. http://icelandreview.com/news/2014/04/13/web-cam-set-grimsvotn-volcano | |||||
