VVHS Parent Advisory Board Position Descriptions (as of May 2014)
President:
· Speak at Curriculum Night about joining the parent advisory
· Set the agendas for monthly meetings
· Preside over monthly meetings
· Provide information for parent newsletter (3-4 times per school year)
· Help with various activities when needed
· Organize fundraising activities if needed (purchase combination locks to sell during registration; also have membership signups available; have a booth at homecoming if needed; get people to volunteer for coat & purse check/water sales at Homecoming and Prom)
· Second check signer (we require two signers per check)
Vice President
· Fill in to preside over monthly meetings if president is not available
· Help with various activities when needed
· Help with fundraising (which is minimal)
· May sign checks (we require two signers per check)
Secretary
· Takes minutes at monthly meetings and types them up for following month
· May maintain lists of parents wishing to volunteer
· Helps with various activities when needed
Treasurer
· Types up budget after discussion by board members
· Writes checks for those needing to be reimbursed
· Keeps a checkbook register and balances the checkbook
· Produces financial statements at end-of-year for school records
· Brings updated budget to monthly meetings
· Helps with various activities when needed
Staff Appreciation
· Presents ideas for staff appreciation
· Shops and prepares food with others for appreciation activities
· Purchases items to be put together for teachers' boxes as needed
· Helps with various activities when needed
Email List Moderator
· Formats daily announcements (as provided by the VVHS Activities director) and sends them out to the Yahoo! Group Parent List (which currently has 422 subscribers). Must have basic computer skills
· Puts out announcements for the administration, VVHS Clubs, Athletics, and Activities when requested or when we have knowledge of an event (state championships, etc.)
· We do not push political agendas; nor do we promote individual businesses other than via "thank yous" to businesses who contribute goods or services to the school
Newsletter
· Gather articles from the principal, staff members, and Parent Advisory Board
· Type up the newsletter 3-4 times during the school year
· Send to school to be printed and arrange to have posted via the school web site
Top 10 Dinner Chair, Academic Letter Ceremony Chair, etc.
· Assignments vary depending on what board decides but are usually not labor consuming if you have at least a few volunteers working on each
