Junior Senate members remember to work your shift in the snackbar this week.
LOST & FOUND: Hey have you lost your pants, can't find your shirt, missing your jacket? Stop by Activities to claim your stuff from lost and found. All items left in lost and found will be given to a shelter at the end of the semester.
LOCKERS: Be sure you have a lock on your locker over the break. All unlocked lockers will be emptied and all books will be returned to the bookroom.
Attention DECA friends, please do not forget we will be having our White Elephant gift exchange in Mr. Colburn's room Friday after school. We look forward to seeing you there!!
The SOAR semester drawing that was scheduled for yesterday has been moved to Friday, January 9 at the winter assembly. So keep turning in those soar cards until the end of the semester.
CHOIR: The Winter Choir concert is Friday night at 6:30 in the PAC
DECA: DECA is hosting a Teddy Bear Drive to benefit CLN Kids. We are accepting new or gently used teddy bears to be donated to homeless children. The first 50 people to bring a bear will receive free pizza and all students who donate will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Yearbook will also be out taking pictures of Hawks with their bears. Donations will be accepted in the library Friday the 12th during lunch. It's cool to share, so we hope you bring a bear!
WING SQUAD: There will be a Wing Squad meeting this Friday regarding important upcoming events. Come to sign up AND check your hours. Also, if you are interested in joining this amazing group come to the lecture hall at lunch this Friday! Wing Squad is a great way to get involved in your school and our community.
ACT TESTING: Due to the Arts & Crafts Fair this Saturday all students taking the ACT on December 13th need to enter the school through the main entrance instead of H hall.
Arts & Crafts Fair: This Saturday from 10-3 there will be a craft fair down in the H hall commons area.
BAND: the VVHS band is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser Saturday, December 13th at the new Applebee's at Coors and Montano Plaza.
VOLLEYBALL: Attention Staff and students – the next staff/student challenge will be Monday, January 5-Friday, January 9. Volleyball will be the challenge for the week. So get your teams together and get ready to dig it. Sign ups will be Tuesday, December 9-Tuesday, December 16 at lunch in the Activities office. Teams consist of 6 people (any mix of students and staff) and it is $5 to register your team. The brackets will be posted on the Main Gym door on Friday, December 19. All games will take place at lunch with the finals taking place during the January 9th Winter Assembly.
COUNSELING:
· NM Highlands University will have a representative available during lunch on Monday December 15th for anyone interested in admissions to NMHU. The rep will be in the lower E-F Concourse area during lunch.
· Seniors if you are in need of making up credits, the E-Cademy Spring 2015 registration is now open. Please make an appointment with your Academy Counselor to register. The registration fee is $25 cash or money order to be paid to the Counselor when you register. The registration period is open until January 16th, 2015; don't miss out if recovery is needed for graduation.
· Attention Ecademy Students - The final exams can be taken here at VVHS. You must sign in by 2:40 in room F-216. Don't be late and make sure you check your announcements for your scheduled final exam date.
· Seniors! Come by E224 and check out the scholarship wall. A variety of new scholarships have been added, like: Moody's Mega Math Challenge, up to a $20,000 to teams of high school juniors or seniors.
· You can also visit the college & career center in E224 between 11 and 1 each day.
· New Mexico Leadership Institute is recruiting High School juniors for its leadership program. In collaboration with UNM and NMSU 30 high school juniors have an opportunity to receive $15,000 if planning on attending either of these NM schools. The application deadline is January 9th, 2015. See your academy counselor immediately for more information.
ATHLETICS:
· Boys' Basketball plays at home against Valley on Friday at 7.
· Girls' Basketball plays Eldorado on Friday at 7
· Varsity Swim has a mini invite today at Albuquerque Academy at 4:00pm. Swim will also be competing on Saturday at the West Mesa Pool at 9.
· Our Talon's Dance team will have their first competition Friday at Atrisco Hertitage beginning at 7.
· Varsity Cheer will compete in the Metro competition on Saturday at Atrisco Heritiage at 1.
· Wrestling: Last Night our Dirty Bird wrestling team continued its dominate run defeating Rio Grande 49-21 and West Mesa 73-6 extending there undefeated record to (7-0). The team was led by undefeated wrestlers: Marcus Santillanes, Angelo Calderon, Willie Chavez, Mathew Otero, Josiah Morgan, Joshua Griego. The most exciting match of the night was between Senior Dylan Salinas, who despite hurting his ankle finished the match with a big take down in his 8-7 victory. Thank you for all the support. We compete this weekend at the 36 team Las Cruces Invite.
