Answer: the skin

It is THE primary defense from infection, often ignored by many.  A burn opens the window to infection by removing the skin.

PS 3rd degree burns often don't hurt... the nerve is damaged, or worse, gone.

good info on this thanks i have a deep 2nd degree burn on my lower leg near ankle bone due to laptop burn
no kidding , still dealing with it, under a doctors care ..due to infection that started 2 days later
