[Volcano_Vista_HS] VVHS Announcements--Monday, March 16, 2015



Congratulations to our Volcano Vista Winterguard. They were selected as a finalist at the 2015 WGI  Phoenix Colorguard Regional. Great job, Emma, Rhianna, Hattie, Alyssa, Mariah, Missy, Isabella, Jennifer and Alexis. Thanks to Mr. Gallegos and Mr. Oniel.

 

Congratulations fo our film program. Volcano Vista was represented by two film teams at the 4th Annual Film or Flight Film Festival sponsored by Studio 508.  The team lead by Ryan Benitez took 1st place this year bringing a $700 prize home to the film program.  Students were given 72 hours to film edit and submit an 8 - 12 minute video. The winning film is titled "Rock Emergency" and can be viewed onYouTube.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWuhWyU2dGYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWuhWyU2dGY

 

MDA: Attention staff and students, VVHS DECA and Senate have teamed up in an effort to send a student with muscular dystrophy to summer camp. As a school our goal is to raise $800.  Shamrocks are only $1 and with just $1 you are helping to make a difference! Thank you!

 

HOMELESS NEEDS: Be a great hawk and donate to Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless.  Please drop off socks, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, lip balm , sunscreen, toiletries, art supplies, and healthcare items in F206 by April 30th.

 

Attention all Volcano Vista students and staff: Our school is participating in the Read to Me Book Drive and we need your book donations! If you have any children or young adult books that you just don't need any more, come see Ms. Duran in room H107 during lunch or after school to make donations!

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is joining Wing Squad in the school-wide book drive, but with a twist :

Donate Spanish or Bilingual children's books through your Spanish class! Teacher who collects the most books by March 18 will receive 8 pizzas at lunch on March 24th!  Books will be distributed to organizations across Albuquerque who serve children in need.  ¡Vayamos los halcones!

 

COUNSELING:

  • Seniors there is still time to apply for scholarships! Go visit the college and career center during lunch, E224 and look at the scholarships available.

  • Juniors there will be a Free Practice ACT on Saturday March 21st from 8 to 12 here at VV.  Registration is online at www.bit.ly/vvhs3-21, the deadline to register is Monday, March 16th, please see your academy counselor for more information.

  • The University of New Mexico will host the 3rd annual Meet UNM Day,  Saturday, March 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in learning more about what UNM has to offer.  Information on Financial Aid, Student Life, Residence Life & Student Housing, Health Sciences, Engineering, Fine Arts, Architecture, Honors College as well as student-led campus tours and housing tours will be presented. RSVP at UNM's Admissions Website or see your academy counselor for more information.

 

ATHLETICS

  • GOLF: The Boys and Girls Golf teams play today at the Arroyo Del Oso tournament.  Good Luck Hawks!

  • BASEBALL: The Metro Tournament begins today

  • SOFTBALL:  The Metro Tournament begins Thursday.

  • TENNIS: The girl's tennis team will host Highland Friday and La Cueva on Saturday. The boys will play at Highland and La Cueva.

  • TRACK: will have a meet at Wilson Stadium on Saturday.
