[californiadisasters] On This Date In CA Weather History (November 29)
2006: Offshore winds gusted to 73 mph at Fremont Canyon (sustained 54 mph) and 58 mph at Ontario.
Widespread property damage and power outages resulted from downed power lines, poles, and trees.
1991: A dust storm, dropping visibility to less than 50 feet, occurred near Coalinga caused a series of chain-reaction accidents on Interstate 5, involving a total of 104 vehicles and resulting in 17 fatalities.
1985: Bakersfield clocked a wind gust of 49 mph from the northwest, highest on record for the month of November.
1976: It was 32° in Borrego Springs, the earliest date in the season to record a freezing temperature.
1975: A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Hawaii on this day, sending a tsunami that hit Santa Catalina Island.
In San Diego a 2.4-foot maximum amplitude was measured.
Some damage resulted.
1975: Fresno dipped to 26° for a low temperature, coldest on record here in November.
1975: The first winter storm of season was a heavy one.
It started on 11.28 and ended on this day. Up to two feet of snow fell in the San Bernardino Mountains, including 16 inches at Big Bear Lake.
Twenty stranded campers were rescued after a few days.
It was 17° at Palomar Mountain, the lowest temperature on record for November.
This also occurred on 11.16.1964 and 11.16.1958.
1970: A series of storms struck the region from 11.25 to 11.30 following large destructive wildfires in the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains earlier in the fall.
9.17" of precipitation fell in Lake Arrowhead, 7.22" in Lytle Creek, 5.11" in Big Bear Lake, 5.02" in Palomar Mountain, 3.56" in San Bernardino, 2.63" in Redlands, 2.51" in Santa Ana, and 2.05" in San Diego.
Flooding inundated streets and highways in the Rancho Cucamonga area.
At least 60 homes were damaged by floods and debris flows.
1963: Five minutes of sunshine were observed on this date in Fresno; only sunlight seen in an 11 day streak from November 27 through December 7th.
Clouds kept high temperatures in the 40's each day.
1892: Virginia City, NV reported an incredible 5.46" of precipitation, its largest one-day total ever.

[Volcano_Vista_HS] VVHS Announcements--Thursday, November 29, 2012
ATTENTION SENIORS: A determination has been made that all sources, no matter if they are only web-based, MUST have a summary or annotation in your Project Proposal. Add a short summary and application after each citation of a source and you will satisfy this requirement.
SENIORS: The following labs will be open for printing of Project Proposals on Friday:
- 645 am to 720 am in E213, H208, F216, E202
- Lunch in H208 and F216
The Library is NOT available for printing, and neither is the Workroom. If you need to print, visit one of these labs.
Best Buds will meet on Friday during lunch in e102. We will be talking about the end of the semester activities.
Spanish National Honor Society will meet TODAY in E112. We have another package from our sister school in Nicaragua and full agenda so be on time!
Art Club Members...Remember to bring Gingerbread house ingredients by Monday.
Seniors: Please purchase your cap & gown and announcements by December 7th at Campus Specialities. The price increases after the 7th.
Administrators will be coming around this week before or at the end of classes to recognize students that received a 3.5 GPA or Higher this past 6 week grading period. Congratulations to the close to 25% of the students at VVHS that will be receiving one of these certificates. Keep up the good work and we challenge all students to achieve at this level.
We will be having sign-ups for Volleyball this week. Any student and/or faculty member may sign up. We will have teams of 5 each player will pay $1.00. Tournament play will take place during lunch in the main gym beginning Monday, December 3rd. The finals will be played at the assembly on Friday the 7th. Stop by the activities office during lunch and sign up. There is a group of teachers calling themselves The Dream Team- they are already talking smack. We need to take away their dream! Sign up now!
Any 5th period class, athletic team or organization that would like to adopt a needy child for the holidays stop by the Activities Office during lunch or 5th period to pick up a card. All gifts are due back to Activities by Thursday, December 6th.
Academic Decathlon: Your first competition is Friday! Check in with Mrs. Taylor for details and to rsvp, either in person or on the blog.
Due to a scheduling conflict the Talent Show has been moved to Tuesday, January 15th.
Seniors if you have taken a course at Southwest Secondary Learning Center and are an athlete planning on Participating at the College level could you please see your Academy Counselor immediately for some important NCAA Clearinghouse information.
ATHLETICS:
- The State Semifinal Football game will take place Friday, November 30th at 7 PM at Milne Stadium vs. Sandia High School. We are the home team.
- The swim team will have their first meet this weekend at West Mesa Pool at 8:30 AM.
- Our cheerleaders will be competing in the UNM Spirit Competition on Saturday at the UNM Pitt at 10:30 AM.
