RE: [californiadisasters] SLO- Cottonwood IC - Santa Barbara Co



Area ignition.  As in a hillside burns so rapidly that it covers the slope like a sheet.  Not good if you’re in the way (you can’t run fast enough).  It appears that the slope ignites at once (doesn’t really but is extreme behavior).

Preheating the slope (fire below, heat rises) makes it happen.  A bit odd for this early in the season and rain last week.
