Part 1: Vinyl and artwork
Posted on July 29, 2013 by Elizabeth RoodEarthquakes pose a special problem to collectors. In this two-part series of posts, we examine what collectors can do to secure their valuable stuff.
Vintage Vinyl
If you're a dj who prefers the warm sound of vinyl, think hard about how you secure those records for the next earthquake. Do you risk that stunning collection of out-of-print funk? Don't let Betty Davis lay shattered on the floor.
Check out this "Will It Shake?" episode on securing bookshelves.
Don't let this happen to you. Take just a few minutes to anchor your record shelves to the wall as we describe here, and put up some cords across the front of your shelves. The room can be rocking but the shelves, and the records, can be standing still.
Patron of the Arts
It's not just photos that can come crashing down in an earthquake. A beautiful collection of framed drawings need to be equally well secured in order to keep the art, as well as the glass frame protecting it, intact.
In the "Pictures" episode of "Will it Shake?" we show you exactly what will happen to your artwork if you do not secure it. Destroyed art and flying broken glass are what you have to look forward to with your collection if it is not secured for an earthquake.
But you can secure artwork for an earthquake easily. With the use of earthquake-safe hooks, or regular hooks and earthquake putty, you can make your artwork safe for the ages in no time at all. Just use our handy "Secure Your Pictures" guide, and keep that artwork on your walls.
