| 08/21 | 2000 | Rim Fire, CA-STF-2857, Tuolumne County, FRA 16,228 acres, 5% contained Central Sierra Type 2 Incident Management team (Cooper) is in Unified Command with CALFIRE. The Blue Team (Wilkins) will in-brief tomorrow at 0900 hours. The line continues to hold on Highway 120. Structure defense for the community of Pine Mountain Lake, San Jose Camp, Tawonga Camp, and Spinning Wheel area. Early intake equipment for the Hetch Hetchy aqueduct is at risk. Direct line suppression efforts are impeded by difficult access, steep inaccessible terrain, and active fire behavior, raising safety concerns for crews adjacent to the fires edge. Smoke exposure, within the deep drainage of the Clavey River will be an issue for crews on the fire. Today the use of MAFFS C-130s and the V-LAT DC-10 greatly aided suppression efforts. Military rotary wing aircraft use continues. Gobblers Fire, CA-BDF-11417, San Bernardino County 50 acres, 20% contained. Southern California Incident Management Team 1 (Walker) assumed command of the incident today. Fire will continue to roll out and make uphill runs. The fire is burning in the North Fork of Lytle Creek and Stockton Flats, inside the Sheep Mountain wilderness. Shirley Complex CA-SQF-3229, Kern County, FRA 865 acres, 71% contained. (Tenant Fire 441 acres, 72% contained. Shirley Fire 454 acres and 70% contained.) Road access is limited into both fires. Terrain is steep and inaccessible. Hazard trees and mud slides from rains present even more difficult terrain. Hwy 178 remains closed into the Kern River Valley. Alder Creek Road and campground and Evans Flat Campground are closed. Voluntary evacuations in the Shirley Meadows have been lifted. Spring Peak NV-HTF-30475, Mineral County 14,200 acres 68% contained BLM, Bishop Field Office, CALFIRE, and USFS supporting this incident with resources. Significant progress was made today in containment efforts. Direct attack was made on the fire using ground crews and air resources; with an emphasis on protecting the cultural resources in the area and the town of Bodie.
