[californiadisasters] Admin Read: Group Stuffs

Achtung Gruppe!

I shall be leaving shortly en route to the 22nd Annual Big Sur Jade Festival at Pacific Valley. I will be out of contact with the outside world through Sunday night. I could conceivably drive home Sunday night and discover that a zombie apocalypse has descended upon our civilization. The Big Sur Coast is that isolated aside from folks driving into from the outside world with news from abroad and that is how here is viewed from there: the Outside World. Forget cell phone communication due to geography to go with the camping in the car that I will be enduring so no television or other communication amenities.

Therefore I ask that all of you keep the home fires stoked here and keep this group updated and lively if there is anything going on worth discussing.

In other business:

The summer fire season is thoroughly gone as you all have probably noticed. Any remaining notable fire activity in California will be of the autumn katabatic wind-driven variety be it Diablo Winds in the North or Santa Ana Winds in the South. You won't be seeing much more of the GACC News & Notes Updates unless we do get a katabatic wind-driven fire situation.

Out of frustration that my On This Date In California Weather History column lacked proper inputs for NorCal aside from NWS Reno office I once again checked NWS San Francisco/Monterey office. Lo and behold I found a feature that is either new or I missed previously that offers a daily weather anecdote which some of you might have noticed recently started appearing in the column. We now get such input from them, the aforementioned NWS Reno as well as NWS Hanford, NWS San Diego, and NWS Phoenix. I have had no such luck with NWS Sacramento, NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard, NWS Eureka, or NWS Medford. If any of you become aware of any such feature on any of their websites please inform me!
