The Pfeiffer Fire started on December 17th 2013 around midnight in the vicinity of Pfeiffer Ridge in the Monterey Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest. The fire has burned 937 acres and is 88 percent contained. Twenty two (22) structures have been destroyed. The evacuations of Pfeiffer Ridge Road remain in effect and include the following: Sycamore Canyon Road on the south to Clear Ridge on the north Highway 1 on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. The following road closures are still in place: Clear Ridge Road Pfeiffer Ridge Road and River Inn to Pfeiffer Ridge Road. The evacuation watch for the area west of Highway 1 between Fernwood Resort and River Inn remains in effect. Andrew Molera State Park is Closed.
Highway 1 is open. There may be intermittent traffic control for the safety of firefighters working in the area and for public safety.
Crews made good progress today in mopping up and strengthening lines in all areas of the fire. Structure protection continued as well. The expected strong winds have passed and the weather is expected to return to a more normal pattern. Scattered rain occurred over the fire area.
Community Meeting: Scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm at the Big Sur Station Highway 1 Big Sur CA
The following resources have been assigned to the fire: Crews - 27 Engines - 52 Dozers - 2 Water tenders - 9 Helicopters - 7 for a total of 1 018 personnel.
Cooperating agencies include: US Forest Service Cal Fire Monterey County SO California State Parks CHP Red Cross Big Sur Fire Brigade Monterey County OES Pacific Gas and Electric and Mid Coast volunteers.

Significant Events | Sycamore, River Inn and Pfeiffer roads are closed. Evacuations of residences in Pfeiffer Ridge community continue. The predicted wind event has passed and the weather is returning to a more seasonal pattern. Crews were able to make good progress constructing lines in all areas of the fire. Crews started mop up and hold operations. Structure defense preparation continues as well. Rehabilitation plans are being developed and implemented in coordination with local forest resource advisors. A public meeting was held again tonight to keep local residents informed as well as to receive input from the community. |
