2015: Strong high pressure and Santa Ana conditions boosted temperatures into the 90s across
the coast and valleys from this day through 3/16, and cooling only into the 60s at night.
Numerous daily high maximum and daily high minimum records were set.
On this day the warmest reading of 96° F in Santa Ana was reached.

1998: During a period that started on this day and ended on 3.14, numerous waterspouts occurred between Long Beach, Huntington Beach and Catalina Island.
Funnel clouds were observed in Phelan and Hesperia.
1996: A storm that started on 3.12 and ended on this day brought eight to 12" of snow to the San Bernardino Mountains.
On this day funnel clouds were observed in Irvine, two southwest of Moreno Valley, and one northwest of Hemet.
1995: From March 10-13, 1995, Monterey County experienced significant winter storm which resulted in sustained heavy precipitation falling on already-saturated watersheds.
Pinnacles National Monument received a record 6.39" of rain over three days.
Devastating flooding occurred throughout Monterey County, particularly along the Carmel, Arroyo Seco, Salinas, and Pajaro Rivers.
Damage was extensive throughout the County with virtually every community affected.
Pajaro, Castroville, Mission Fields, Carmel Valley, and Big Sur sustained devastating damage. Over 1,500 residences were damaged, including 60 homes which were declared uninhabitable. The highway 1 bridge over the Carmel River washed out.
The closure of Highway 1 over the Carmel River resulted in the complete elimination of access to portions of Carmel Highlands and Big Sur for a period of several days, requiring evacuations to take place with helicopters.
Floods on the Pajaro, Carmel, and Salinas Rivers on March 12th were so severe that they cut off access to the Monterey Peninsula from the north and east.
In fact, the Monterey Peninsula was isolated from vehicular traffic for a period of 24 hours.
The Salinas River exceeded its previous measured record crest by more than four feet, which was within a foot or two of the reputed crest of the legendary 1862 flood.1990: A thunderstorm produced hail up to 3/8" in diameter over an area 20 miles south-southeast of Avenal and accumulated to a depth of 2".
The hail knocked down numerous almond blooms resulting in over $250,000 in damages.
1975: An F0 tornado hit Fowler (Fresno Co.) where it lifted a steel paint shed more than 200 feet into the air and tossed it into a horse corral about 100 yards away.
A portion of the roof and rafters at an industrial plant was torn off as well.
1969: Grant Grove (Sequoia-Kings Cyn. Nat'l Park.) measured a snowpack of 179", its' greatest ever.
1967: A series of storms brought heavy rain starting on 3.11 and ending on 3.14.
Total precipitation was 8.52" in Lake Arrowhead and 8.06" in Lytle Creek.
Only about one inch fell in the San Bernardino area during this time, and none in Victorville.
The Mojave River flooded a couple of roads and washed out construction sites in the desert.
Heavy snow fell in the higher mountains, up to two feet in Big Bear Lake.
But only one inch at Lake Arrowhead and Idyllwild.
1967: 30" of snow fell at both Tahoe City and Truckee.
1941: A heavy storm hit the San Gabriel Mountains and Mojave Desert from 3.12 through 3.14.
Victorville received 1.78".
The Mojave River flooded homes in the Oro Grande Wash.
In Wrightwood three houses were destroyed from a mudslide in Heath Canyon.
Mud and debris six feet deep covered Lone Pine Road.
1936: It was 29° F in Palm Springs, the lowest temperature on record for March.
This also occurred on 3.4.1952.
This is also the latest date of a freezing temperature on record.
