This storm also produced very high winds up to 110 mph at Burns Canyon with numerous gusts over 80 mph.
Damage was incurred on many roofs in the high desert.
1992: A series of storms that started on this day and ended on 3.23 brought 1"-5" of rainfall and local flooding.
On this day a small tornado moved through Monterey Park with winds estimated at 100 mph.
1991: Post frontal severe weather: an F0 tornado occurred near Chowchilla.
In addition, nine funnel clouds were observed across the central and southern San Joaquin Valley from Merced County to Tulare County.
One funnel cloud in Madera County near the San Joaquin River, hail up to ¾" in diameter fell and accumulated up to 2" deep.
A thunderstorm dropped ¾" diameter hail as well in downtown Fresno.
1991: A vigorous storm that started on 3.17 and ended on this day produced 1"-8" of rainfall in lower elevations and up to 14" of precipitation in the mountains.
24"-60" of snow fell in the mountains.
Local flooding and mud slides resulted.
On this day Hwy. 78 in north San Diego County was flooded and closed.
Tornadoes hit Riverside and Muscoy (near San Bernardino) on this day.
On this day lightning struck at transformer in the North Park area of San Diego, knocking out power.
A house fire was also started.
Also on this day a waterspout came ashore to become a tornado at Camp Pendleton.
Two other waterspouts were seen off the coast there.
1979: Fourth day this month with dense fog observed at Bakersfield, a record for March.
1955: Gusty winds blew borax dust from the Owens Valley into Inyokern damaging TV antennas and roofs.

2011: A strong Pacific low pressure system with a subtropical moisture tap stalled over much of the central California interior for most of the day.
New record high precipitation amounts were set in many locations.
Locations in the southern Sierra Nevada and foothills received large amounts of snow, and this caused numerous electric power outages lasting for almost a week.
2005: A tornado moved through South San Francisco at about 3:45 PM.
The twister formed over the Westborough hills and headed over Interstate 280.
After wreaking havoc in an industrial park and residential area close to downtown South San Francisco, it raced northeast and eventually dissipated over San Francisco Bay about 4 PM.
Power lines were knocked down and windows shattered in an area centered at Railroad and Commercial Avenue.
At least 20 homes and 20 businesses, including the city's new fire station, were damaged.
The twister also uprooted trees and triggered gas leaks.
2000: Winds gusting up to 56 mph toppled a crane that was used in the construction of a roller coaster being built at the Sahara Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
The fallen crane crushed a fence.
