On This Date In California Weather History....

2001: Spring snowstorm from the 6th through 7th of April dropped 20" of snow at Hume Lake and 23" at Lodgepole.

1999: 15.0 inches of snow fell at Truckee, with 12.0 inches at Glenbrook.

1989: A major heat wave lasted from late March to mid April.
On this day and on 4.7, daily high temperature records were broken at all recording stations in Southern California.
Many monthly record high temperatures were set for April, including 112° at Palm Springs on 4.7, 106° at LA on this day, 104° at Riverside on this day, 103° at Escondido on 4.7, 102° at Santa Ana on this day, 101° at Tustin on this day, 98° at San Diego on this day, and 76° at Big Bear Lake on 4.7 and 4.8.

1989: Earliest triple digit high temperature on record at China Lake NAS, 102 degrees.

1986: A funnel cloud was observed at Gillespie Field, El Cajon.

1955: A tornado touched down north of Moreno Valley.

1926: A waterspout came ashore in National City resulting in the most damaging tornado on record in San Diego County.
Eight were injured and roofs were torn off homes.
In Santa Ana 3.52 inches of rain fell and in Riverside 2.34 inches of rain fell, each the greatest daily amount on record for April.
