On This Date In California Weather History....

2001: An F0 tornado touched down in Clovis knocking down fences, uprooting trees and damaging small structures.
This was the first tornado of the new millennium for the Central California Interior.

1999:
A funnel cloud was observed two miles west of La Jolla.

1989: Highest ever at China Lake NAS in April, 104 degrees.

1989:
A major heat wave lasted from late March to mid April.
On 4.6 and on this day, daily high temperature records were broken at all recording stations in Southern California.
Many monthly record high temperatures were set for April, including 112° at Palm Springs on this day (the earliest date in the season to record 110° or higher), 106° at LA on 4.6, 104° at Riverside on 4.6, 103° at Escondido on this day, 102° at Santa Ana on 4.6, 101° at Tustin on 4.6, 98° at San Diego on 4.6, and 76° at Big Bear Lake on this day and 4.8.

1975: Latest subzero temperature reading on record at Lodgepole (Sequoia-Kings Cyn. N.P.), one below was the low.
Also the coldest temperature on record here in April.

1975: The morning low temperature at Bridgeport was -2, its all-time record low temperature for April.

1967: Three funnel clouds were observed by a pilot near Chowchilla.

1965: A cold late-season storm that started on this day and ended on 4.11 brought heavy rainfall and snowfall to the region.
Over the period 7.66 inches of precipitation fell in Lake Arrowhead (with nearly 50 inches of new snow).
5.44 inches fell in Palomar Mountain (with 13 inches of snow), 4.36 inches in Big Bear Lake, 4.25 inches at Cuyamaca, and 3.14 inches in Idyllwild (with 24 inches of snow).
1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell across the coastal basin.
Mountain roads were closed.

1958: 15 inches of snow fell in Idyllwild, the greatest daily snowfall on record for April.

1919: Coldest high ever in Bakersfield in April set, 50 degrees (also set on April 7th and 16th).

1875: The low temperature hit 39° at San Diego, the lowest temperature on record for April.
