Grass fire ignites barn, vehicles in rural area

A fire involving a barn and several vehicles on a rural Elk Grove property was contained by fire crews Wednesday afternoon, a Cosumnes Community Services District Fire Department spokeswoman said.

The blaze was originally reported as a grass fire at about 3:45 p.m., in the 10600 block of Rau Road, said department Fire Chief Tracey Hansen. The first units to arrive also found a barn and nearby vehicles fully involved, and the primary residence on the property threatened, Hansen said.

Two people on the scene required medical treatment, said department Battalion Chief Greg Langer. One man sustained burn injuries to his hands and was transported to the hospital. A second man was treated for heatstroke at the scene.
