Adding to Kim's eloquent prose, I must interject sadly that the original was not shot on location. Western Arkansas looked remarkably like Colorado. Aspens in Yell County? Nope. Don't think so.

The 1969 version was shot in Colorado and the Sierra Nevada, while the 2010 was in Sante Fe, New Mexico and parts of Texas. The story had them heading west into "Indian Territory," now Oklahoma. That's where the real rattlesnake cave is supposed to be, near Davis. No aspens around there, either.

There was also a real Judge Parker (the Hanging Judge) in Fort Smith, who died in 1896. His gallows were burned a year later.

I too liked both the original and the remake, in spite of the geological inaccuracies.
